A Show Of Force at the Skylark

If you've ever been to a show in the Quad Cities you've probably heard of The Skylark. It was once a church that throughout the years has hosted many different kinds of beliefs. Now it's used as a performance venue as well as a music production studio. On Friday, April 28th, 2023 LOVESBLIND, Manhattan Blockade, House of Animals, and Five AM performed at this historic location in Rock Island. This was arguably one of the most fun shows I've been to in a while.

As the venue was getting packed they kicked off the show around 7 PM with LOVESBLIND. The electric performance is one that no one wants to miss. This weekend was a special performance as it was their bassist's (Hunter Adam) birthday the day after, more to come about the next night at the Washington in that review. The audience was packed shoulder to shoulder right up next to the stage, but not a soul complained.

Next to the stage was Manhattan Blockade and they really stepped up their performance taking the audience by surprise when they switched up their setlist. Even with microphone difficulties the bodies of the guitarist (Bryer Meierotto) and bassist (Mitch Youngblood) never stood still for a moment. If they were struggling no one could tell by how much fun they looked like they were having. Even to the point Jay Wetterling and Bryer Meierotto ended up on the floor a few times. Great job on giving a fun and memorable performance!

After a quick tear down and re-set up House of Animals were up next. These guys just put out their new EP (maybe you’ll see an album review in the near future *wink wink*) and if you haven’t listened to it what are you doing? The entire crowd was bouncing to the melodic tunes that were coming from these guys. The crowd definitely came to play during their performance even multiple times hearing people chanting "One More Song" at the end of their set which they obliged and performed another song to leave the fans satisfied. House Of Animals new EP "I Told My Friends To Stay Home" is out as of April 28th, 2023, and can be found everywhere that you stream/buy music. GO LISTEN TO IT, you won't regret it!

Five AM was the headlining band and they did not disappoint! (Do they ever though? The Answer: No) The energetic crowd had a blast with them. For Five AM it was also a special night, they just recently announced they have been signed with Oxide Records. ALSO, they dropped a new single called "Trust Issues." These guys never miss a beat in bringing the heat. Their set for the night combined new and old favorites along with some special guest vocalists. During "Shallow" they brought up Jay Wetterling from Manhattan Blockade. This had everyone in the crowd bouncing along. One more surprise vocalist that they brought out was Lance Deshane (The FourtyTwos) They even treated the crowd to an encore, ending the show with "Crazy."

If you weren’t there you missed one hell of a show. For everyone that showed up the energy in that room is something that this writer chases for every show. You really know how to make these bands feel welcome!
