Blew Up On My Own: A Sit Down with DJ Ant Bomb

When did you start DJing?

For starters, my mother was a DJ, she used to come home with crates of records and make my brothers and I carry them in the house after every gig she had. So I started djing when I was 14.

Who were your early influences when you were getting into DJing?

I always looked up to local DJs on the radio and in my area, Dj Def Master Les, Dj Kaos, Mixing Moe, Rockin Rico & Dj Shane.

Rocking Rico created a place for people to party, he called it 'The Underground' which was his empty basement with lots of graffiti on the walls. That was around 1993 and 1994.

What is your favorite style of music to perform and create?

Hip-hop, House & R&B are my favorites

Where is your favorite local venue to play at?

The Capital and The Washington in Burlington Iowa. Something about those stages make me feel like I already made it. Maybe it's because some of the greats have been on those same stages.

Do you have a pre-show ritual that you do to get yourself in the headspace for going on stage?

The biggest pre-show ritual that puts me in the right space would most definitely be praying before I go on stage.

What is a piece of advice for new creators that are on the come up?

I've been a Rap artist all my life, I never would have thought I'd be signed to a Label, doing tours all over the country but eventually, my hard work paid off. When I stopped making music for others and started making music for myself, the doors opened! I am officially signed to 'Stevie Stones' Label Ahdasee Records as a Dj, artist, and writer.

Stevie Stone is also formally known as Tech N9nes 'Strange Music Records' artist the number 1 independent hip hop label in the world out of Kansas City. Dreams do come true.
