When did you first get into writing music?
I actually started writing music in high school for fun with my friends. They were short little raps that we would make for fun, which even landed me a part-time job at the time. But it wasn't until I got into college that I really started taking it seriously, and realized writing for me is like my diary and I can really process what I’m going through in life through music.
Who inspired you to start music?
Honestly, I could list a bunch of artists with whom I’ve grown up listening to and admiring, but I don’t think I really felt inspired to take this seriously until after having a deep conversation with my cousin August. August Gonzalez is also an amazing artist and I remember like 2 years ago we were in her basement and she was just telling me her journey with music. The ups the downs, the dry spells, and the writing till her fingers were numb. So having such an intimate and personal conversation with her relaying her truth in this industry rather than hearing it from a screen, really motivated me, to make this part of my character and career. I just felt so human and in the moment and her words truly resonated with me and what music really is. I also think she’s just really cool haha!
How would you describe your style of music?
I feel like I never have a straight answer when I’m asked this question. Well, I rap and sing, so maybe like alternative hip-hop, or the love child of Lil Nas X and Doja! All I know is I make music for the gays so maybe further down the line we can figure it out together haha!
If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would be performing with you?
Crazy enough the T-mobile center here in Kansas City. It’s my hometown and I’d love to perform where I grew up and see familiar faces, as well as see how far I’ve come. I’d also love to perform with Tierra and Rosalía, it would definitely be more than just a performance but an entertainment phenomenon.
If you could collaborate with anyone right now who would it be?
Hands down Tierra Whack. Everything about her music is just a cherry on top, I love her flow, I love her style and I just love the tone and variety that she produces. I get a lot of my inspiration and influence from her and she has a nice balance to her craft. With a mix of vocals and rapping, that is my dream collab.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given you about your art?
There is no perfect way to make music, so trying to create out of perfection will leave you unsatisfied every time. As well as understanding that not everyone will vibe with your craft but that doesn't mean you're unfit for it, just make what you want unapologetically.
When driving, what 3 songs do you have blasting the stereo with the windows down?
Oh eassssy! Unholy by Sam Smith & Kim Petras, Soul Travel by Caleb McLaughlin, and Scoop By Lil Nas X ft. Doja Cat
