Not Your Daddy's Apothecary: A Sit Down With Ametrine Apothecary

Can you tell me a bit about your business?

I’m an in-home bath and body product creator! I make sugar scrubs, soaps, bath bombs, and shower Fizzies at the moment but soon to be expanding to more products! Right now my newest products are surprise bath bombs with either a pocket-size tumbled crystal or a small Pokémon figure.

I started because I really needed a hobby to combat my mental health. I like to create things and make people happy, but hobbies cost money so I decided to sell what I make.

Everything blew up a lot quicker than I thought it would, I started everything right at the end of November and was making everything to order and now I’m creating almost every night after work for hours at a time just to have stock on hand.

How long does it take you to create your products?

For the most part, maybe an hour from start to finish per scent. Most things are quick to whip up but packaging and labeling take a while. I do have to wait overnight for certain things, like bath bombs and shower fizzies, to set up and harden and soaps can take awhile to cure.

What is your favorite scent to mix into your creations?

My Sunshine Citrus, it just smells like instant happiness every time I make it. It’s a citrus blend of lemongrass, tangerine, and grapefruit essential oils.

If you had to eat one of your products, which one would you eat?

The Sugar Cookie Sugar Scrub! I may have tasted it before It’s a blend of vanilla and sweet almond essential oils. It’s definitely not recommended to eat since essential oils aren’t advised to be ingested, even if it smells exactly like a sugar cookie, but the one taste didn’t hurt me.

What is one goal that you have set for yourself that you hope to complete in the coming year?

This really only steps one of my five-year plan. My goal is to save all the profits from my products, start a haunted history walk in downtown Davenport, open a retail business that has some spooky vibes and focuses on local small businesses, and have a speakeasy coffee shop in the back of the retail space. So anything that brings me closer to achieving my long-term goal is my year-end goal, even if it’s just saving my profits.

If you were talking to someone who wanted to start their own company what would be the best advice you could give them?

To do it. There are so many people out there that have these wonderful ideas but are scared to fail, if you sit down and think of what you want to do or what you want to create, write up a game plan. The worse thing that’ll happen is you fail but think about how fantastic it’ll be if you succeed

What three songs best describe your products?

"So Fresh, So Clean," by Outkast

"Great Escape," by Boys Like Girls

"Guilty Pleasure," by Cobra Starship

Where can we find your business?
